Xain and Draethus have slain the enemy, but the last machine lord has slipped away, leaving its brethren behind. The darkness festers, and these heroes cannot allow the monster to live. For this machine gathers forces. Unopposed, the slaughter unfathomable.

Leith Raeson, Xain's father, has appeared with the Dawn Eclipse, the mysterious and ancient star vessel instrumental in the Heridian war. Standing between his execution and salvation, Leith promises hope, and a way to defeat the biomechanical Heridians. Xain must choose between revenge and victory over the enemy.

Meanwhile, on the world of Terris, Killiax Lasser is hunted by the cartel for reasons unknown. He suspects his new colleague is involved, a shady Scrounger with hidden motives. When an old hero emerges, the three team up against their pursuers, but another has answered the enemy's call. Vapour Nolen, a cybernetically enhanced human and assassin for hire. The team are on the run, until they discover what the cartel's leader, the Engine, has in its possession.

Hundreds of years in the past, Nexus Baal and his squad are abandoned, left to die. When the Soldiers of the Void intercept an anomalous signal emanating from a dense nebula, Squad Nexus investigates, but vanishes. To Nexus, survival is their only focus, but what they discover could alter the outcome of infinite conflicts.
