Combustion Engine Diagnosis

The increasingrequirements on the coverage and precision of fault detection and diagnosis forinternal combustion engines need systematic procedures for the development.Compared to the classical on-board diagnosis (OBD) for emission-related faults,advanced methods with signal models and process models allow a considerableexpansion of the detection and localization quality for engine componentfaults. 
As combustion engines obtained severalvariabilities and many electronic control functions the complexity increasedand troubleshooting is a well-known problem. Advanced engine diagnostictherefore supports also the workshop-based diagnosis (off-board) to find theroot causes of faults more quickly and reduces vehicle down-time. After a short introduction to advancedsupervision, fault detection and diagnosis methods the book describes model-basedmethods for the main components of gasoline and diesel engines, like the intakesystem, fuel supply, fuel injection, combustion process, turbocharger exhaustsystem and exhaust gas aftertreatment.
