Putting into practice principles he presented in Theme and Context in Biblical Lists (1995), Scolnic begins to study the lists of High Priests of Israel in the Bible. Noting that the Bible does not contain a complete list, and that even to examine the reconstructions from small lists would be too big a bite for one book, he focuses on one tiny list in Nehemiah 12:10-11. It covers six high priests and a period of between one and two hundred years.
