The year is 1086. William The Conqueror has initiated a nationwide survey of all land, landowners and the entire population of England, to ensure all taxes are collected and accounted for. The resulting document will become known as the Domesdei Book.

While Raoul "The Hawk" is kept busy on the King's behalf, dealing with skirmishes throughout England, his wife Judith-Chatelaine of Oakwood Castle-enjoys visiting properties bestowed upon her husband by a grateful King, always returning to Oakwood where she tends the townsfolk.

Raoul's younger brother, Eustace-his insanity escalating into random and frequent acts of violence-remains imprisoned in Oakwood Castle. Their older brother Olaf-visiting Oakwood to celebrate his niece's marriage-is incensed to find Eustace incarcerated and demands his release, with tragic consequences...

Eustace escapes and begins a killing spree.

Judith's health begins to decline, and, realizing she is dying, she knows she must stay strong to keep the family safe.

If only she had more time...

Industry Reviews

"It takes a skilled and intelligent imagination to seamlessly

blend history and fiction. Rose doesn't gloss over

the brutality of the period . . ."

- 5 Stars ForeWord Clarion Review

5-Star Amazon Reviews for Chatelaine:

"I love this book! I found it difficult to put down. The characters were

so real and gave me a wonderful glimpse of the times. To see their

lives unfold from beginning to end was so well done."

"Wonderful research - learned a lot about the time period."

"Once I started reading it, I could not put it down!... This book is so

well written that I was not only drawn into the history of the time, but

I also fell in love right along with Judith and Raoul, sharing in their

joys and struggles."

"One of the true tests of an excellent book is whether or not the characters

become friends to the reader. Judith and Raoul quickly become

those friends... It was a difficult book to put down and I was sad

when it ended."
