Edward âNedâ Hector was a Black soldier who fought in the Continental Army during the Revolutionary War, serving as a teamster and a bombardier with the Pennsylvania State Militia. Despite his service in the war, his requests for payment of his military pension were repeatedly denied. He ultimately received a onetime payment of just forty dollars.
