When Grayson Ender arrives in the secluded town of Breakvale, West Virginia, he expects nothing more than a few dull years teaching English at the local high school-a means to an end, a way to pay off his student loans. Beneath the town's charming veneer, however, he finds that life there is not as he had imagined.
And then it comes for him. Grayson encounters the Beast of Breakvale, a spectral creature bent on devouring people for the secrets they keep. First, he develops disturbing nightmares and visions, then students from his class go missing. To stop the Beast, Grayson wades deep into the mythos and mystery of a monster plaguing the people of Breakvale, where the town motto is spoken often among its residents: "Truth is Life!"

Masterpiece. I do not say that word lightly. I care about fellow authors. I care about people enough to where if something they make is garbage, I would not want them to go out and embarrass themselves. I am known to be brutally honest, so needless to say that I do NOT throw words like 'masterpiece' around lightly. This book is one. The characters are real, you care for them. They are so vivid and well drawn that they kind of act on their own. The mark of a good novel is where the author knows the characters so well that they are not writing a story FOR those characters. They are merely plopping them down into a situation, then just writing down what they do. Good books are well-written. Masterpieces write themselves. The story had me by the balls from the first page, and I hung onto every word, no matter how crazy things got. It tows the line perfectly between utter craziness and believing that this is a real, little world out there in some corner of the multiverse, Twilight Zone or whatever you want to call it. I cannot say enough about this book in a positive light. You owe it to yourself to read it. Masterfully crafted and very, very enjoyable. The ending was superb, the setup and climax of the book had me red-eyed and reading A LOT longer than I wanted to in one sitting, but in the best way.
