Breakthrough Lies

They promised redemption. They delivered lies.

Florida, November 1987-When sixteen-year-old Julie France McLaughlan is taken from her home by a controversial teen drug rehabilitation program called Breakthrough, her mother is told it's for her own good. But Julie has never used drugs-and her sudden disappearance leaves her mother desperate for answers.

She turns to investigative reporter Jack Kendall.

Jack quickly discovers that Julie's younger brother has already been confined to Breakthrough, where humiliation, isolation, and psychological abuse are enforced as "treatment." Behind the program stands George Macy-a powerful Palm Beach developer whose influence has turned Breakthrough into a national movement praised by politicians and shielded by those sworn to regulate it.

As Jack digs deeper with fellow reporter and wife Bobbie Kendall, they uncover a network of corruption stretching from Florida's Gulf Coast to the halls of Congress. Officials are bribed to look the other way. Records are concealed. And those who ask questions are silenced.

With time running short, Jack faces a dangerous choice: walk away-or risk everything to expose the truth and save the children trapped inside.

Breakthrough Lies is the fifth Jack Kendall Mystery-a powerful investigative thriller about deception, corruption, and one reporter's relentless pursuit of the truth in the face of the twisted "tough love" treatment.
