Brandon Sanderson
"You see, that is the sad, sorry, terrible thing about sarcasm. It's really funny."
Brandon Sanderson is a #1 New York Times bestseller, a Sunday Times bestseller, and a Hugo Award winner. His novels have sold more than 20 million copies around the world, and he is one of the most well-known and beloved fantasy authors in modern fiction.
He is most famous for his epic fantasy series The Stormlight Archive and The Mistborn Saga, both of which exist within the Cosmere universe. His work also includes the sensational Skyward science fiction series and The Reckoners superhero novels. Even though these stories span genres and reading ages, the one thing Sanderson is known for above all else is his world-class world-building.
In addition to creating his own landmark series, he was chosen by Robert Jordan's estate to complete The Wheel of Time sequence, now an internationally successful series on Amazon Prime.
Meet Brandon Sanderson
Brandon Sanderson grew up in Lincoln, Nebraska and quickly became a huge fan of high fantasy novels in his teenage years. He attended Brigham Young University and majored in biochemistry, but after a two-year stint as a missionary in South Korea, he returned to his studies and switched to English literature.
During his studies, he worked the night shift at a hotel, which game him time to start work on his novels. It wasn’t long before he was graduating with a masters in English, with no fewer than seven novels under his belt – but not one of them was published at the time.
Eventually, Tor Books published one of his standalone fantasy novels, Elantris, which got the ball rolling for Sanderson’s prolific and immensely successful writing career.
Today, Brandon lives and works in Utah with his family. His wife Emily, also a BYU alum, works from home part time as his business manager. Brandon teaches part of a creative writing course at Brigham Young University, takes part in a weekly writing podcast, and regularly shares updates and news via his hugely popular YouTube channel.
