Family has long been important to West Africans. As a young man, Tony Weedor was no exception; he felt lucky to have grown up in rural Liberia as part of a close-knit Muslim clan. Everything changed for Tony, however, when his mother and father cast him out for converting to Christianity. He graduated from college, married, and found a job with a Christian missionary organization. Then Liberia disintegrated into horrific Civil War, and Tony, his wife, and infant daughter were forced to flee into the jungle to endure a year of hiding and starvation. After two years in a refugee camp, their odyssey would finally bring them to America, where Tony would graduate from seminary and begin a new life with his family.

Now, after an absence of thirteen years, Pastor Weedor returns in the wake of 9/11 to his war-torn African country hoping to reconcile with the Muslim mother who rejected him decades before. The Reason for Tears is the true story of one man's hope and pursuit of relationship in an age of religion and terror.
Industry Reviews
"The Reason for Tears will have you in tears of joy by the end. A more astonishing tribute to the greatness and grace of God could scarcely be found." - Craig L. Blomberg, Distinguished Professor of New Testament, Denver Seminary
"Gripping and challenging...I couldn't put it down...[Tony Weedor's] faith has been tested in ways I can only shudder to think about. He has much to teach us about being an intelligent, faithful believer in Christ." - Author Ruth Graham
