About The Author

Penny Matthews has worked for many years in children’s book publishing, and is now a freelance editor and writer. Her first picture book, 'Moving On', was published in 1993. It has been followed by seven more picture books, three chapter books and three junior novels. In 2003 'A Year on Our Farm', illustrated by Andrew McLean, was the Children’s Book Council of Australia’s Book of the Year (Early Childhood) and an Honour Book in the Picture Book of the Year awards. Penny’s first young adult novel, 'A Girl Like Me', was published in 2010, and in the same year 'Something About Water', illustrated by Tom Jellett, was joint winner of the Wilderness Society Award for Children’s Literature. Penny is married, has two grown-up children, and lives in Adelaide.
