As 2024 is fast approaching, we’ve compiled a list of our most anticipated reads for the new year. There are likely to be some very exciting releases throughout 2024 for books we don’t know about yet, but there are a few we can’t wait to get our hands on!
What books are we most excited about in 2024?
We have chatted with our team of book experts who have shared their recommendations below.
Romance
Emily Henry, Ali Hazelwood and Tessa Bailey are no novices when it comes to the romance genre, and we cannot wait to see what exciting new stories and characters they bring to us next year. Heard of the smash hits Icebreaker and Wildfire by Hannah Grace? Well, we are getting a sequel that looks adorable! These three reads will definitely be at the top of our 2024 TBR.
Crime
Not only are these covers absolutely stunning, but the exciting new crime books hitting Booktopia in 2024 look like they will hit! We can’t wait to get our hands on these criminally good reads.
Fantasy Romance
These are just a few of the hot new fantasy romance books we’ll see next year. The highly anticipated ‘Bride‘ by Ali Hazelwood is at the top of our list and we can’t wait to explore the new fantastical and romantic worlds.
Thrillers & Suspense
Best-selling author of ‘The Silent Patient‘, Alex Michaelides is bringing us a new and exciting book that we look forward to jumping into. We also have an excellent line up from popular Aussie authors Dervla McTiernan and J.P Pomare! We’re sure these thrillers will keep us on the edge of our seats.
Modern & Contemporary
Our highly anticipated modern and contemporary reads include the author of ‘Eggskull’, Bri Lee’s latest book ‘The Work‘, as well as a unique new lyrical novel ‘I Could Read the Sky‘ and the heartwarming ‘Tiny Uncertain Miracles‘. Another exciting release is The Life Impossible from Matt Haig, the author of the Midnight Library!
Fantasy & Sci-Fi
We are spoilt for choice when it comes to fantasy and Sci-Fi new releases for 2024. Epic new worlds with dragons, unknown planets, wizards, and vampires lure us into new exciting storylines. Sarah J. Maas is dropping the much-anticipated sequel in the Crescent City series, House of Flame and Shadow. Also – who can resist a new release from THE Brandon Sanderson?
Young Adult
The world of Young Adult fiction is bursting at the seams with excellent releases (and these are just the ones we know of!). We have a new Holly Black book (heard of the incredible The Cruel Prince series?), set in the Elfhame world, a new romance from the wonderful Tobias Madden and the sequel to the BookTok sensation, Divine Rivals. We are also potentially getting the last volume in the Heartstopper series!
Food & Drink
2024 is already shaping up to be a cracker of a year for foodies starting with the much anticipated cookbook from Malaysian institution Ho Jiak. We are excited to have Sophie Hansen’s newest book providing the perfect options for what to take when you have to take a plate. And can’t wait to be able to bake from sweet and savoury treats from Neil Perry-backed Baker Bleu.

There are just so many books already announced for 2024 – we know it is going to be an incredible year of reading!
