Zeb Whitney and Ricky Saunders, two cowboys turned sheep-herders, take what seems like an easy, well-paid job on the Willow Creek range—only to suspect almost at once that they've walked into trouble. Zeb is wary and quick to see danger, while Ricky is more easygoing and doubtful that anyone would bother them. Their sharp banter gives the story its rough frontier humor even as a rifle shot, strange signs around the ranch, and a devastating explosion that wrecks their camp confirm that someone wants them gone. Exhausted, hungry, and short on shelter, the pair struggle on through miserable days of hard labor and mounting danger. Zeb becomes convinced a range war between cattlemen and sheepmen is behind the sabotage, and Ricky, though skeptical, sticks with him. Their uneasy partnership is tested when armed cowboys arrive with an ultimatum: move the sheep off Willow Creek by nightfall or be driven out. Blending comic skepticism with rising tension, the story builds toward a classic Western showdown of stubbornness, survival, and resistance.
