The road to political and economic independence and unity in Africa has been long and winding. Catastrophic wars and conflicts have aggravated the scourges of poverty and underdevelopment. Several initiatives with the potential to improve the situation have been launched, yet the continent continues to confront major issues as a result of an inadequate governance culture. Regrettably, the enormously gifted continent is the poorest region in the world. With recent advancements, however, optimism is growing as Africa's economy continues to make breakthroughs despite unexpected global economic impulses. This book perceptively examines Africa's developmental constraints despite its limitless untapped resources and provides important improvements that should be firmly integrated into Africa's governance process. One of the author's discoveries is that Africa has no cause to be impoverished if Africans demonstrate serious efforts, devotion, and commitment to building the continent. Unfortunately, Africa has a meek civil society that is unaware of the masses' rights and power. This book documents democratic experiments and major political upheavals on the African continent and also suggests practical ways of eliminating problems. It articulates Africa's chronic poverty, poor political strategies, and the imbalance in the global economy from a broad comparative and development perspective The book pinpoints the negative effects of the seeming reluctance of some Western nations to free Africa completely from their grips through continued subtle manipulation of the political and economic development of Africa. It is encouraging to see that the situation is changing, as African leaders now recognise the faults of their societies, the prerequisites for growth, and the necessity to implement constructive development activities. All of this suggests that Africa has a promising future if its people are willing to work hard to make it so. This collection addresses a wide range of challenges that African countries may address in order to achieve long-term prosperity. One recurring revelation is that Africa's leadership must be prepared to adjust and improvise in order to effect the necessary structural adjustments to compete favourably in the global economic and political arena, muster all available resources, and strategize for the evolution of a more prosperous polity.
