How to be a champion word puzzler in 20 quick bites! Packed with word puzzles, tongue twisters and brain teasers, this book will give readers all the ingredients they need to solve cryptic crosswords.

Kids of a certain age become obsessed with crossword puzzles: what are they? how do they work? when can I solve one all on my own? Word wizard David Astle has come up with a sneaky way to introduce children to the mechanics of cryptic crossword puzzles, by taking them through different kinds of wordplay - anagrams, pangrams, spoonerisms, tongue-twisters, homophones - before presenting them with crossword puzzles to solve using everything learnt so far. 'DA' puns and word plays abound, making this the word nerd's bible of wordy trickery and puzzling.

About the Author

David Astle is a full-time word nerd. Many will know him as the dictionary man on the TV show Letters and Numbers. Or maybe just DA, the devious crossword-setter in the Sydney Morning Herald and the Age. He also devises a weekly 'Wordplay' newspaper column, plus a newsy anagram game on Sunday radio. Between puzzles, he's written half a dozen wordy-nerdy books for adults, including Riddledom, Cluetopia and Puzzled.

Wordburger is an amazing book written by David Astle, who has put lots of anagrams, word puzzles and games into this book, which has lots of thinking points which involve your brain to work them out. It also has lots of cool tongue twisters that will take you ages to master. It also contains the basics, such as basic English and easy anagrams. Wordburger has lots of cool facts that are really interesting and fun. This book has palindromes which are words or names that are spelt backwards the same way as forwards, not names like Alesha which is spelt Ahsela backwards or Deepinderjit which is spelt Tijrednipeed backwards, but names like Ava are spelt Ava backwards.

In our class recently, we have been reading Wordburger and we love it. It has given us so much entertainment and joy. In my opinion, David Astle is a fun, hilarious writer who has lots of cool puzzle and anagram ideas, that will give you hours of enjoyment. He has included things like basic English such as ' Sea and See ' which makes it good for all ages. Just to give you a bit of the book, here is a fun tongue twister ' A black bug bit a big black bear and the big black bear bled badly '.

I love Wordburger and if you love words you will too. And as I said, its for all ages so grab a copy yourself. Have fun.

There is lots of good pzzles and word problems. And he tries to make it fun like he makes other words with
other words that are normal and i dont like that much because it is very silly. And it is like why do you need
to use other words with other words.

I do not like the book word burger because it is very confusing to me and it is extra homework and it takes up school time and his activities are very boring. And i don,t like the book word burger because it is not fun or funny.

I do not recommend this book to other people because they will think it is boring and i don,t like this book word burger.

    Comments about Wordburger:

WordBurger is a funny and helpful book that teaches kids about puzzles, and learning new words. Then, if you devour deeper into the bun, you meet juicy anagrams, saucy tongue-twisters, cheesy crosswords and hilarious chapters. To top it all up, in just 20 quick bites, you'll become a champion at solving puzzles and codes.
I really like book because it helps me learn new words and me a lot with mind-boggling puzzles and at the same time having lot of FUN! Every time our teacher reads WordBurger to the class we all listen closely and enjoy the delicious meal. David Astle really gets kid to sharpen the brains. like in one part of the book it shows you how to find words that can be spelled backwards and can still be said backwards. Like did for example. D-I-D same spelled backwards see? Also the book shows you how to write words and mix them up to become other words. Like for example garden turns into danger.
I recommend this book to kids all ages, maybe over seven and kids like me who are 12 or 11 years of age will definitely love it, and I bet even adults like my teacher will enjoy it! :)
