In 2016, Dion Leonard, a seasoned ultramarathon runner, unexpectedly stumbled across a little stray dog while competing in a gruelling 155 mile race across the Gobi Desert. The lovable pup, who earned the name ‘Gobi’, proved that what she lacked in size, she more than made up for in heart, as she went step for step with Dion over the treacherous Tian Shan Mountains, managing to keep pace with him for nearly 80 miles.

As Dion witnessed the incredible determination of this small animal, he felt something change within himself. In the past he had always focused on winning and being the best, but his goal now was simply to make sure that his new friend was safe, nourished and hydrated. Although Dion did not finish first, he felt he had won something far greater and promised to bring Gobi back to the UK for good to become a new addition to his family. This was the start of a journey neither of them would ever forget with a roller coaster ride of drama, grief, heartbreak, joy and love that changed their lives forever.

Finding Gobi is the ultimate story of hope, of resilience and of friendship, proving once again, that dogs really are ‘man’s best friend.’

About the Author

Dion Leonard is a 41 year old Australian who lives in Edinburgh, Scotland with his wife Lucja. Dion has not only completed but competed in some of the world's toughest ultra marathons across the planet's most inhospitable landscapes. This includes running across the brutal Moroccan Sahara desert twice in the 250km Marathon Des Sables and also twice across South Africa's Kalahari Desert, also 250km. br Dion's latest 250km race across the Gobi Desert in China turned out to be a completely different race where he fell in love with a stray dog (later named Gobi) that followed him during the week and who would change both of their lives forever.

What an awesome read, this little dog has stolen my heart. She chose her human and decided to stick by him throughout his gruelling race. A remarkable love story told by Dion himself.

A wonderful read, you will cry and cheer even when you already know the ending. I don't know who saved who, Gobi or Dion?; much more than just a retelling of shipping a special dog home.

Buy this book! It is so good. I read this in one night. I just couldn't put it down. It is such a wonderful story and aside from the tears of happiness and sadness you know it that it ends so well. This story will change your life for the better. It will make you believe in humanity again. I can't wait to follow the continued journeys of Gobi and Leonard family. Can't wait for the movie!

This is a story about an Australian ultrarunner and a stray dog, a 250 mile ultra-race across the Gobi Desert in China, the Australian's Dutch wife back home in Scotland, devoted strangers in China who became devoted friends, and the good that can come from a viral story on the internet. Whether you've been following Gobi's story since the beginning, or you've never heard about Gobi before, you will LOVE the book! It's appeal is far broader that just for people who love dogs. It is also a story about ultra racing. It is a story about how the internet and crowd funding can make really good things happen.

In a world where negativity is the norm, this is a true story of kindness, personal integrity and courage. Through Gobi, Dion finds that there are kind, caring people all over the world and that this is our norm rather than the negativity we confront every day. I came away from this book feeling lighter and more optimistic and will be dipping back into it every time I need something to cheer me up.
