To Alex in 1979, it is a dark reflection of his own angst at how the world seems stacked against him yet made frightfully easy for others. His anger at how easily a loved one can be cast off by those in power. It is a place where his unfulfilled sexual desires and deep need to be the hero in his own story are realized.

Suddenly, he heard the unmistakable sound of an animal scurrying through the dried underbrush beneath the palmetto bushes and sat upright, glancing around with interest.
In just a moment, he spotted the creature. Its white fur was easy to see through the foliage. Perhaps three inches shorter than he, was a bunny-girl who stood upright on two large bunny-type feet. They had seen each other at the same moment, and their eyes locked. Rising from the sides of her head were two white furred rabbit ears that were gray in the center. Her skin was pale, and her eyes, a lovely shade of pink.
"Well, hello," the bunny-girl said with a twitch of her tiny nose. "You don't have the time, do you? I seem to have left my watch in my other shorts."
She was dressed in a tiny pink halter top and shorts that were scandalously skimpy. She seemed to bob nervously on the balls of her feet, as if she couldn't stand still if she tried.
"Who are you?" Alex asked nervously.
The girl smiled and bobbed dramatically enough that her breasts bounced beneath her top, much to Alex's delight. "I'm the White Bunny," she said, and her smile revealed two prominent upper front teeth that, surprisingly, Alex found completely adorable and made him feel a little weird. "And who are you, handsome human?"
"I'm Alex," he replied, and she winked at him playfully and bounced again on her toes. "So, Alex, do you know what time it is?"
Tearing his eyes from the bunny's wondrous figure, he nodded and looked down at his silver Timex, which had been his high school graduation present. "Certainly," he said, happy to help the lovely creature, and nodded. "It's two-forty-five," he said with what he hoped was a friendly smile.
The girl's eyes popped open wide. "Is it really?!" she cried out and glanced around as if looking for something. "Jumpin' jiminy, I am late, so very late!" she cried.
She looked at Alex with alarm. "So very nice to meet you, Alex, but I really must be ooooffff!" the bunny girl babbled and then darted off into the forest of thick bushes and twisty trees, paying no attention to the trails. And she didn't hop away like Alex would have imagined, but dashed off like a sprinter. In an eye-blink she was thirty feet away, leaving Alex with just the view of her tiny little ass and the white furry tail that stuck out from a hole in her shorts.
"Wait!" Alex yelled and, dropping his book and pencil box, ran after her at his very best speed, which, honestly speaking, wasn't very speedy. In a footrace, the tortoise he might catch, but the hare had nothing to fear.
Twice, he caught sight of her and then lost her again as she rounded a bend, leaving him to wonder exactly why he was chasing the pretty little thing. He only knew that he must know more about the unusual girl.
Just a moment before giving up the chase, he spotted Bunny looking around a majestic laurel oak, smiling widely at him before disappearing behind it. Seeing open ground before him, Alex put on an uncharacteristic burst of speed and tried to call out to her, but couldn't find the breath.
Just a few seconds after the bunny-girl disappeared, Alex reached the tree and slid like an action hero in the fallen leaf litter as he darted behind it. Before he even knew what was happening, the ground dropped out from beneath his feet, and Alex fell into darkness.
