A gut wrenching, page turning, historically accurate story of trauma, tragedy, a Medal of Honor and the triumph of democracy over tyranny in the nightmare of the Somme.

The 4th of July, 1918, Wolfsberg Ridge, Le Hamel on the Western Front. The battle for French liberty is swallowing 10,000 men a day.

An unconventional US Army Colonel hatches an unapproved plan to gain combat experience for untried US Army infantry before they are thrown into the hellfire of the Great War alone. A rookie US Army Captain and his team of Illinois Doughboys are sent forward to face the fury of the Western Front embedded within an elite Australian Anzac Infantry Battalion.

At the Front, the Aussies and Americans confront Kaiser Wilhelm's Stosstruppen storm troopers, launch vicious trench raids, survive catastrophic chemical attacks, fighting bleeding and dying together like brothers. To everyone’s amazement the notoriously uncooperative Anzacs take to their new American 'mates'. More surprisingly, the insular Aussies include the Yanks in the top secret attack being prepared by the Australian military genius John Monash, a revolutionary plan that aims to smash the Kaiser's so far unstoppable advance on Paris.

On the very eve of the famous Battle of Hamel on Independence Day 1918, General 'Black Jack' Pershing intervenes in the last moments before the men go 'Over the Top'. US Captain Teddy Makepeace and his Doughboys face a nightmare choice, obey orders and abandon their battle hardened Aussie mates to slaughter. Or, honour their pledge to the Anzacs, mutiny and stay and fight regardless of the consequences.

Their heroic decision still echoes down through the decades...

Industry Reviews

"Wolfsberg stabs at the core of Great War history in a relentless, unforgiving prose that captures the essence of the conflict to leave us staring blankly stunned into the milieu of the madness.." Tim Page legendary Vietnam War Photojournalist and multiple New York Times best selling author

"...this work of fiction defies all the odds because I can assure you the book does not read like a book of fiction. It comes through with an authenticity that will take your breath away and leave you reeling as it puts you in the very boots of those extraordinary Anzacs. While Wolfsberg is technically a 'novel', it is a detailed and fair dinkum account of the actual events that occurred in 1918, and centers on eight primary characters, four Australian and four American, as they march towards their destiny at Le Hamel.

And what wonderfully complex characters they are. Layered, human and full of dreams, doubts and faults just like the AIF veterans they channel...

...You will feel the fear pound in your temples, the bullets burn your face, the artillery deafen and numb your senses as you share the battlefield and privations of these ordinary yet magnificent Anzacs.

Wolfsberg will take you down into the departure line where you will tremble with the Digs before they 'hop over'; you will learn tragic trench songs before you sink into the morass in No Man's Land; and you will feel the adrenaline of overstressed combat pilots as they are hunted in their slow old canvas biplanes by Baron Von Richthofen's Flying Circus.

Each in their own way, these characters cling to life and sanity as they are pounded mercilessly by the artillery, as they fight back panic while enduring endless gas attacks, and as the bullets crack, zing and buzz past their battle-damaged ears.

The novel is vast, detailed, and truly immersive and I promise you that no matter what you think you now know, you will learn more about the Great War than you knew before. And to be completely honest, if you don't laugh and cry, and believe me you will cry, then you have a heart of stone.

Wolfsberg left me exhausted, battered and concussed like its characters but truth be told, I did not want it to end. And when it did, I felt myself at a loss. Mark my words, this book is destined to become an Australian Classic."  BJ Price, Book Review, Australian & NZ Defender Magazine March 2018
