Orphaned at a young age by the humans, Gem was adopted by a Lumis, a white tiger. Lumis teaches Gem to treat other animals equally. However, he cannot be friends with other animals simply by trying to be friendly because they view him as a predator trying to eat them. Nonetheless, he does help whatever animal he is able to help and listen to their tragic backstories. Most of the animals he's met have been hunted by the humans who have crafted weapons far more dangerous than any animal and become unstoppable. They also wear armor that's made of dinosaur leather stripped from dinosaur giants, and they became known as the Scales Empire. Gem spends time with his animal friends by playing with them and learning what they eat. Gem's animal friends are Slash, Lumis's older cousin's daughter; Ben, a gentle triceratops; and Blue Leaf, a young blue brontosaurus. Gem's love towards his animal friends awakens a magical butterfly spirit named 'Lu'. Lu can create forcefields that can protect him from the humans' deadly weapons and allow him and his animal friends to stand up to them. The next day, Gem and his friends rescue a human girl named, Princess Pelissa, who was being kidnapped by human thugs wearing dinosaur scale armor, meaning they work for the Scales Empire. Gem and his friends seek to return the lost princess to her tribe. On the way home, Gem and Pelissa develop romantic feelings for each other. Lu can even help them translate each other's languages. However, Lu isn't all powerful because if she uses her powers too much, she grows tired until she breaks.
The leader of the Scales Empire is named 'Emperor James Scales' who hates all animals because his father was killed by them, so he vowed to ensure a similar tragedy does not happen with the rest of his people. For this reason, he has his men wear dinosaur armor so they can last longer so they can be there when their wives and children need them the most. He also has his men hunt down wild animals so that they feel his pain. Emperor Scales also has a mad scientist named, "Dr. Meddles" who also has a similar hatred of animals, and he is the one who invented the weapons for him and his empire. Dr. Meddles was also working on a superweapon which will brainwash all animals into following the commands of him and the Scales Empire so that they cannot think of running away as they're getting killed. Once Gem and his friends learn of their plans, it is up to them to stop them from launching their superweapon before it reaches completion.
