The last thing he remembered was everything. Now, he remembered nothing.

Cyrus Vane, an elite corporate operative, traded three years of his life for a clean slate and a second youth. But the promised cerebral flush was a betrayal. It left him with the phantom ache of lost time, an empty bank account, and no memory of the man he used to be. He is a ghost in the system, and his past has been professionally erased.

But some things cannot be deleted.

Hunted by The Watchers, a clandestine agency that polices reality itself, Cyrus is accused of an impossible crime: architecting the Temporal Anchor. It is a machine that doesn't just predict the future—it cements it, locking humanity into a single, unchangeable timeline dictated by his former employer. With his mind a void and his life forfeit, his only clues are twelve cryptic objects left in a bag. To stop the world from grinding to a halt, Cyrus must piece together the conspiracy from the echoes of a life he can't recall. He must learn to trust the instincts of the monster who built the cage: himself.

A Note from the Author

The core idea for The Static Margin began with an unsettling question: If you erased your own memory, could you still trust the person you used to be? Our protagonist, Cyrus Vane, wakes up to this nightmare. His past three years are a void, but a ghost of that time remains—a 'Work-Self' who left him a bizarre toolkit and a mountain of trouble.

This story is about the war for one's own identity. It delves into our society's obsession with control and the seductive promise of a future without surprises, a future cemented in place. At what point does security become a prison? Cyrus is a stranger in his own skin, forced to solve a puzzle left by a man he can't remember. I hope his fragmented journey makes you consider the echoes of your own past. Thank you for reading.
