When Connor's parents died fighting for the rebellion, Jacob took him in. The gruff fighter saw potential in the young and weak orphan where the other rebels only saw a liability. He believed in Jacob enough to teach him, to train him... to sacrifice himself for him.
Now everyone else has given Jacob up for lost. But not Connor. After everything Jacob has done for him, he refuses to leave him to rot in prison. Even though he's been ordered to do just that.
The rebels' caution is warranted. The prison is surrounded inside and out by deadly robot guards, and there's no way to sneak in undetected. Pulling off this rescue would be nearly impossible for someone who knew what they were doing... and that was always Jacob, not Connor.
