In 2022, podcaster Tom Fox interviewed Loren C. Steffy about the issues and themes in his debut novel, The Big Empty. As Fox saw it, the book may have been set in 1999, but many of the issues at the heart of the story are even more relevant today than they were then. The result was a five-part podcast series, The Big Empty and Economic Issues Facing 21st Century Texas. The series examined key issues that the book examines: Water, power, land investment, housing, and of course, the clash of cultures. It won Communicators Awards for Excellence in a Limited Series and Distinction in Business. Now, the series is available as an ebook.
