Spadille Mori, an eighteen year old who has a bright future to Harvard, wants to see what American government officials would do if they shot their school up. They did exactly that with their group of friends, who would quickly be cut down in numbers. Before that however, they had a great chemistry. With their brain and brawn put together, they easily blamed the shooting on Spadille's ex-girlfriend, Mel Extrano, and the step brother Mel cheated on Spade with, Conard Brown. It all falls down after they go into hiding.
Spadille finally sees their girlfriend, Cherub Hearts, and starts to begin planning the final plan of extreme violence. Bombing the White House and killing the president. Cherub slowly teaches Spadille more about the powers they both have called "Gifts." Gifts are obtained by committing suicide or being killed, but there is a price. You live forever, no matter what happens. However, you get any powers you like, depending on your emotions prior to your near death. Spadille is Death and Cherub is Life. Gift users who commited suicide or were murdered are able to give others a partial Gift. Some of Spadille's friends such as Hiro Gemini, Titan Dread, and Bishop Ade are lucky to receive one.
Hiro and Cherub are quick to have some hateful tension for unknown reasons, as well as Spadille to Titan and his fiance, Raven Dread. However, Spadille keeps it inwardly because they do not want to create uneasy tension. Beneath them lies more lies. Papi, CJ, and Bant Drum struggle to come to terms with themselves from the past. Spadille struggles to deal with their power and anger.
When the day to bomb the White House comes, Spadille and Hiro fight. As the planes were crashing down into the White House, Hiro saved the pilot. The pilot was Papi. Spadille then cracks Papi's skull open and watches Hiro commit seppuku. Whereas Cherub was glad to see both Papi and Hiro dead, Spade had their final confirmation that they are not as evil as people think. Spadille revives Hiro, and does not take his Gift back. They then behead the president on a livestream.
Shortly after, they end up fighting "Trumpets" and as they are doing so, Titan almost gets killed by a CCC (Conservative Capitalist Christian) or KK (Klans Koward). Spadille saves him and kills the CCC.
After the traumatizing events, Spadille and Cherub are both seen standing on the balcony looking into the crowd. Spade remembers that it is not only Cherub's birthday, but it is also the day they want to purpose to Cherub. They lie to go to the bathroom to prepare themself. When they come out, they call Cherub back into the room. They pull out a beautiful ring and Cherub says yes. They walk outside to introduce themselves and announce the things they plan to do.
Before they are able to turn back into the house, Spadille is nearly shot. They both brush it off and continue into the house. The lights are turned off, and they both sit on the bed, what could possibly go wrong? Everything. Spadille accidentally reveals that going through different scenarios did not help them accept the past is the past, and Cherub forces them to by knocking them out and meeting their past self and their future child, Noire Mori/Hearts. As Spadille is there, their past self chokes Spadille upon seeing them as Noire asks hypothetical questions to make Spade realize they are hurting nobody but themself, Noire, and Cherub. As past Spade acts present Spade, present Spade comforts the past and fully accepts their feelings. They end up back in the physical realm.
Cherub and Spade apologize to each other. Spade decides to go to a restaurant with Cherub. As Cherub gets ready there is an explosion, Spade walks down to the outside to inspect what happened and is greeted by guns and knives. Spade asks,"You'll lay your life down for America, right?" Before bringing death upon everyone that was shooting.
Spade and Cherub finally go to the restaurant. After they order, Cherub pulls out a ring and also proposes to Spade. Spade accepts it happily and points out the symbolism in. Spade then reveals that they do not wish to be friends with Titan and Raven. Other than that, they have a wonderful time as they go to the White House, and officially claim it as their house. They find a bar in there, Spade decides to make drinks, and Cherub gets drunk. She cries over Spade until Spade slaps her, and Cherub lightly chokes Spade. Both of them laugh it off. Cherub then thanks Spade for everything they have done. They reminisce until the sun rises.
