Samudra Manthana, or the Churning of the Ocean of Milk, is one of the most famous stories in Hindu scripture. Recorded in the Puranas, it recounts the temporary alliance between Devas and Asuras to churn the ocean of milk for the nectar of immortality (Amrit).

The story begins after the Devas, weakened by Sage Durvasa's curse, are defeated by the Asuras. Seeking Lord Vishnu's guidance, they are advised to collaborate with their enemies to churn the ocean using Mount Mandara as a rod and the serpent Vasuki as a rope. This book dives into: Why did Vishnu become the turtle Kurma? What divine treasures surfaced? And how did the beautiful Mohini avatar change the fate of the gods?

While 14 Ratna's (gems) are commonly mentioned, the lists in different scriptures range from 9 to 14 depending on the Purana. Texts related to the Samudra manthana are available in the Bhagavata Purana, Vishnu Purana and Mahabharata.
