In the aftermath of a family tragedy, an aspiring author is torn between love for her childhood friend and the temptation of a mysterious outsider. Trying to escape the ghosts of her past, she is swept away to a house that breathes, bleeds...and remembers.

In a recent interview with STYD, del Toro makes it sound fairly clear that Crimson Peak will have a lot more in common with The Shining than with The Haunting or The Innocents, at least in terms of the content that's going to earn it an R rating. Though it will be an English-language production, Del Toro says that Crimson Peak will be in large part a return to his Spanish horror roots, which include films like The Devil's Backbone, Cronos and Pan's Labyrinth.

Industry Reviews

"Thick with atmosphere and full of suspense, drama, mystery, horror, deception, and romance, Crimson Peak is a must-read for fans of gothic storytelling, regardless of familiarity with the movie it's based on." - VG Blogger

"The flavor of the film vibrantly comes through, and the screenplay by del Toro and Matthew Robbins is respected, with a few minor modifications for the sake of literary enhancement. Courtesy of Titan Books and author Nancy Holder, the Gothic universe of Crimson Peak continues to beckon and entice." - Diabolique Magazine

"Very entertaining" - City of Films
