About the Author

Richard Jackson cofounded Bradbury Press (in 1968), Orchard Books (in 1986), and DK Ink (in 1996), and in 1999 he moved to Atheneum. Titles he has edited since his official 2005 retirement include a Newbery Medalist (Susan Patron’s The Higher Power of Lucky), four Sibert honor books, and Brian Floca’s Caldecott Medal–winning Locomotive. He lives with his wife, a quilter, in Washington, DC, where he is an altar guild volunteer at Washington National Cathedral.

About the Illustrator

Kevin Hawkes has illustrated more than forty books for children, included the New York Times bestseller The Library Lion, Weslandia, Michael Ian Black’s A Pig Parade Is a Terrible Idea, and Santa in Cincinatti. He lives in Southern Maine, where he can be found wandering aimlessly in his garden, unless forced indoors, where he creates imaginary landscapes with cobalt blue skies.
