Off the coast of what will one day become England, twelve men row through angry waves, rain pelting their faces. A huge wave smashes the port side, wrenching the rowers, breaking their oars, tearing the sail and pushing the wooden boat to shore.
Close to land, one final, fateful wave lifts the vesseland rolls it over the sand dunes.The men scream under the boat and then fall silent.
The time: 1000 B.C.; the location is half-way up the west coast of Denmark's Jutland Peninsula, in a tiny village called Hjerting. Our story follows one villager, Sigurd Jensen, as he navigates life as a shipbuilder and sailor, painting a vivid portrait of what life may have looked like in ancient northern Europe. As the world opens up to him, he embarks on a journey of incredible twists and extraordinary adventures.
