Joseph Conrad is a Polish author who wrote in English after settling in England. He is regarded as one of the greatest novelists in English for such works as Almayer's Folly, An Outcast of the Islands, Heart of Darkness, Nostromo, The Secret Agent, The Duel, Victory, The Shadow Line, and The Rover. His narrative style and anti-heroic characters have influenced many authors such as F. Scott Fitzgerald, William Faulkner, Gerald Basil Edwards, Ernest Hemingway, and George Orwell. Nostromo is set in the South American country of Costaguana. Though Costaguana is a fictional nation, its geography as described in the book resembles real-life Colombia. The main hero, Nostromo, is a commanding figure, respected by the wealthy Europeans and seemingly limitless in his abilities to command power among the local population. He is believed to be incorruptible, and thus he is entrusted with removing the silver from the city of Sulaco to keep it from the revolutionaries. Is this mission up to him? Will he manage to save the treasures? Read the story to find out about his further life.
