Dr. Elle Hampton is living in Chicago and surgeon for a hospital dealing with the results of a high crime rate. Dealing with nightly gunshot wounds she finds herself alone and wanting a promotion for her ability to do more than other surgeons. When her Grandmother passes away the estate was hers and her sister's to have.
The choices of what to have from her Grandmother's estate was one of two homes that was in the family.
Giving her sister the house in the city, Elle took the property in North Carolina. She knew that as a black doctor living in Chicago she was well respected but overworked and stuck. Taking a chance, she applied for a position at the local hospital where her inherited house was. The job was a promotion and moving South to the remote area of North Carolina was now her new direction.
Elle soon finds out that the house she inherited needs more work than she anticipated and finds herself hiring contractors to do the repairs. Not thinking local white guys would find a black woman from the North attractive, Doctor Elle Hampton soon finds herself dealing with a white contractor who finds her irresistible. Elle now struggles with an interracial relationship with a white man who wants nothing more than to start a family with her right away. Her assumptions of what her white lover wants, is tested as she finds herself deep in love with being the object of his racial desires.
