Set in old Florence, Moufflou is a tender, vividly atmospheric tale of poverty, devotion, and the bond between a child and his dog. In the shadow of Or San Michele, little Lolo, a crippled boy, finds joy and companionship in Moufflou, a clever white poodle whose tricks briefly lift the family's fortunes. When a foreign gentleman pays for the dog's performance and visits with his sick child, the encounter opens a fragile door to hope, only to be overshadowed by a far harsher crisis: Lolo's brother Tasso is drawn for military service. Rosina Calabucci makes a desperate bargain, selling Moufflou to pay for Tasso's exemption, and Lolo is broken by grief. His illness deepens until the family fears he will die, but Moufflou's miraculous return at the very moment of last rites restores the boy to life. When the dog's new owner comes to claim him, Tasso's brave plea wins mercy, and the family is reunited with their beloved companion. The story closes in joy and gratitude, celebrating loyalty, sacrifice, and the mysterious power of love to heal. This edition has been fully restored with modern typesetting, custom cover design.
