This is the question David and Anne Seagram face after she sends DNA samples to Markers, a heritage mapping service. His sample reveals David is extraterrestrial to an international company who wants to destroy the aliens and to save the global economy. David is kidnapped, faces torture and later sees a wonderland from the aliens, as he attempts escape after escape to return to his wife. Anne and private investigator Ruby Scott must search through David's and his mother's distant past to find her husband, transversing their various identities over the years to avoid detection.
