Who would have thought that the author of "The Russian Canary" and "Napoleonic Convoy" would decide to give a tour of a madhouse! However, Dina Ilyinichna does not do this alone; she is accompanied by Semyon Gurevich, a psychiatrist who was born in St. Petersburg and emigrated to Israel.
The character is fictional, but has a real prototype. Meet Vladimir Gamerov, a psychiatrist and friend of Dina Rubina. A new novel is dedicated to him, consisting of funny and touching stories of his own medical practice.
But let's return to Semyon. It must be said that this is an atypical character for the work of Rubina, who admits that her imagination has always been occupied by male characters of a sharp type. Remember Leon or Aristarchus. But Gurevich doesn't get into fights and doesn't shoot at people. But at the same time, he is a strong-willed person who knows firsthand how easy it is for a psychiatrist to change places with his patients.
Semyon is a figure from the era of empty shops, saleswomen from general stores, the everyday life of communal apartments, scarce Baltic knitwear, boxes of chocolates that were given and re-gifted. "Maniac Gurevich" allows the reader to recognize himself not only in the words and actions of the main character, but also in his environment, the attributes of everyday life. Of course, Rubina's new work will touch the strings of Soviet souls.
