Forward Pass follows Dan Vinton, a determined schoolboy stepping from home into the competitive world of Yardley Hall, where the new football game promises rivalry, friendships, and hard lessons in character. From the start, his journey is shaped by family expectations, his father's hard-won views on education and company, and Dan's own hunger for independence, making his move to boarding school feel both adventurous and uncertain. After weighing school catalogs, advertisements, and practical advice, Dan is guided toward Yardley Hall and arrives in Connecticut full of anticipation, wonder, and nerves. There he is drawn into the Pennimore household, where an older gentleman's gratitude for Dan's bravery leads to a memorable bond built on honesty, modesty, and mutual respect. Dan's rescue of Gerald Pennimore opens the door to friendship with a sheltered boy who longs for Yardley, resents his tutor, and shares Dan's interests in books, stamps, and football. Set against ocean views, school politics, and the promise of athletic triumph, this coming-of-age novel blends sentiment, humor, and sports action in a classic boarding-school tale.
