Razor's Edge: Fiddle Game
A confidence game involving two players. Uses the pigeon drop technique. Player One dresses shabbily and goes into an expensive restaurant and orders a meal. Once finished, Player One realizes his wallet is at home. Claiming home is nearby and he'll be right back, he offers his only worldly possession, usually a world-worn fiddle; his means of creating a livelihood. Once the possession is accepted, Player One leaves.
Player Two swoops in almost immediately says the fiddle is a rare item and offers a large sum. He then leaves in a hurry, leaving a card so Player Two can be contacted at a later time.
Player One returns and pays for his meal. The Mark then starts to try to buy the fiddle, thinking he has a rare item. Player One reluctantly sells the fiddle and pockets the money.
Leaving The Mark with a useless item.
