Exploring the Barrens

All Ember has ever wanted was freedom. Freedom to make her own choices. Freedom from the damn bunker. When her grandfather tells her that yet another choice is being taken away from her, she decides she needs to escape. She finally has her freedom. Or does she?

Lilith grew up in the Barrens. Kidnapping and selling people. She's always wondered if there was more, but has never had the guts to find out. When she lays claim to the newest slave, she begins questioning everything she's ever known.

Can Ember and Lilith survive the Barrens to escape the Animals and forced slavery? Will they be able to run far enough that they don't need to keep looking over their shoulders? Can they learn how to live and love in the new post-apocalyptic world? Or will the biggest challenges in their lives have them questioning their love?
