In the far-flung future of the thirty-first century, Dr Fred Huckins is offered an astronomical sum of money for one simple task - to let his knife slip on the operating table, killing the brilliant physicist Trella Mayo. However, the surgeon's staunch refusal to trade another's puts her life in a different manner of peril altogether. Mayo's very existence is split between timelines when another attempt is made against her life, and Huckins finds himself thrust into a race against time to save her, lest she be wiped from reality itself.
