When Denny, a twenty-six-year-old free clinic doctor who dances in a Chippendales-style revue for men in the evening and who isn't above selling his body to men, runs afoul of a Chicago crime lord, he is offered a dance lead position and change of name to Doug McClure in Bangkok gay clubs. But he's running on the edge in Bangkok, as well, and getting mixed up in the operations of a drug lord sends him spinning off to a casino on the Cambodian-Thai border. Here U.S. intelligence Candy Store Unit chief Sam Winterberry discovers him, is impressed by both his prostitute and doctor credentials, and involves him in a joint U.S.-Thai operation against gun running to a Thai insurgent chief. Winterberry wants to continue using Doug, but Doug, at the invitation of a Filipino businessman who owns a casino on Cebu Island, slips away to the Philippines, where he is taken up in white slavery and shipped to Abu Dhabi, which looks like it might be the end to Doug running the edge. But he's such a good recruitment prospect to prostitute himself for the needs of Uncle Sam that Sam Winterberry just might not give up on recruiting—and mastering—him.
