Dylan Buckley

"As soon as I started embracing who I was and what was important to me, I felt it was a real steppingstone in becoming true to myself."

Dylan Buckley is best known as an Australian rules footballer who spent years playing for the Greater Western Sydney Giants and the Carlton Football Club. Since retiring from football, he has since been creating and producing two sports podcasts, Dyl & Friends and List Cloggers, which are both hugely popular shows in their categories.

In 2023, he again proved himself to be a man of many talents with the release of his debut book, Honest Chat. This sports autobiography takes some of the themes and lessons from his podcast and pours them onto the pages, with Dylan discussing how readers can move past surface-level chats and address deeper topics.

Meet Dylan Buckley

Dylan Buckley was born in Ballarat, Victoria in 1993. Like many Aussie kids, he played football throughout his childhood, starting at his school and for an under 19 side. He also played for Vic Metro in the AFL Under 18 Championships, and for the Yarra Junior Football League.

And if the name rings a bell, that could be because he is the son of Jim Buckley, a midfielder for Carlton in the 1970s and 80s. That meant that when Dylan was an up-and-comer, he was eligible to be drafted by Carlton through the Father-Son Rule.

Dylan therefore made his debut in 2013, and was nominated for the AFL Rising Star award just one year later. He continued playing for Carlton at the end of 2017, when it was picked up by the Greater Western Sydney Giants for a couple of years.

During his time with Carlton, Dylan hosted a short interview series, so his step into podcasting in 2018 was a natural one. In 2021, he further established himself as a media expert by launching Producey, a content and amplification agency.
