When Jack and his wife Gemma found a crashed alien spacecraft on Mars, they had no idea of the storm of consequences their discovery would unleash.
Twelve years later, after a war with the alien civilization that built it, a planetary bombardment of Earth's major cities, a peace treaty and a wave of human colonists disappearing to take advantage of the aliens' faster-than-lightspeed technology, Jack and Gemma have been invited back to the red planet for a handover ceremony to return the crashed ship to its rightful owners.
Not the biggest fan of Mars, Jack nonetheless agrees to go... but what will he find there now? Closure? Another archaeological discovery or something to assuage his guilt over the possibility that his previous one had triggered a global scale conflict?
