Living alone looking out onto the harbour in a secluded part of town, August works in a cafe as a waiter spending his free time drinking at their main competitor on the point and looking after his cat.
For the most part it's a good if lonely life until unexpectantly his neighbour dies and in the ensuing storm of conjecture he meets a strange creature from the sea.
At the first they embark upon an unusual urban adventure through the streets he thought he knew so well until a police investigation around his neighbour's death sets worry in his heart. Then fear sets in as the local homeless show a familiarity with the creature and August begins to fear that he has fallen into a world which he does not understand.
