Modern life is woven from the discordant threads of chaos and opportunity: one set of thread uproots us from past traditions that once guided us in the ways of our ancestors; and, the other, guides us forward towards new possibilities of growth and connection. For some, this new social fabric can be bewildering-leaving us psychologically and morally uncertain how to exist in, and move through, a rapidly changing society, dissociated from the comfortable scripts written by our ancestors so many generations ago when people lived in smaller groups, worked in the mud, and, according to many scholars, wore strange clothes and donned funny hats.
Being Human explores the deep psychological and mythological roots of what it means to live, love, and survive authentically as a human being. From our archetypal genesis-born helpless, needing others to survive-we move between two fundamental social paradigms: one of love, connection, and mutual care, and the other of control, hierarchy, and exclusion-the morality of Love versus Control. This lays the foundation for our moral and psychological development-giving us a clearer perspective on the person we are, and will become; and what we will have left behind, when all is said and done.
