Aila was born of light - in a world that feared it.
Raised in the vibrant village of Khanyisa, where identity is celebrated and power flows through ancestry, Aila always sensed there was more waiting beyond the horizon. So she left - in search of something deeper. But what she found in the distant land of Naftali was not what she expected.
In a city where everyone wore white, spoke in sameness, and followed unspoken rules, Aila - Black, bold, and brilliant - stood out. At first admired, then challenged, and eventually controlled, she became both an outsider and a lifeline. When her very body is used to power the city, Aila must confront a system that values her light, but not her presence.
As she uncovers the truth behind Naftali's false harmony and faces betrayal from within her own bloodline, Aila's fight becomes bigger than herself. It becomes a call to memory, to community, and to the awakening of a silenced people.
AILA is a lyrical and piercing debut in The Awakening Series, a parable of power, identity, and resistance - where one girl's light exposes an entire world's darkness.
