A practical guide with explanation of NS3, essential concepts, practical examples and assessments

Key Features

  • Exploring Network Simulator-3 (NS-3) best practices
  • Understand the key building blocks for simulation and evaluate network topology
  • Learn how to setup, and Evaluate Wired, Wi-Fi(802.11a/b/g/n/ac/ax) and 4G LTE networks

Book Description

Network Simulation is a technique where a software program replicates the behaviours of real network. Network Simulators are the program that predicts the performance of computer network or wireless communication networks. Network Simulator-3 (NS-3) is a script based simulator that is highly useful for to learn, experiment, and evaluate wired, wireless (802.11a/b/g/n/ac/ax), and 4G-Long-Term Evolution (LTE) networks at low cost and quick time.

You will start with learning how to install and use NS-3, and its important general features such as building blocks for setting up a variety of wired or wireless network topologies, installing suitable protocols and applications, identifying and handling networking issues, and evaluating the network performance systematically. You will get to understand simulation errors, exceptions and abrupt events. You will explore how to set up and evaluate CSMA/P2P LANs, Wi-Fi LANs and Internet. The book will also cover capacity planning, site survey, radio resources, mobility management, and interference handling.

By the end of this book, you will be able to use NS-3 for implementing, analysing, debugging, and performance evaluation of wired or wireless (Wi-Fi and LTE) networks, and setting your custom test scenarios.

What you will learn

  • Learn installation of NS-3 easily for learning and research
  • Explore NS-3 logging, debugging, tracing, evaluation on networks
  • Discover various wired, Wi-Fi LANs, and ad hoc networks
  • Understand set-up using Wi-Fi protocols, placement and mobility models
  • Learn to set up advanced Wi-Fi technologies: 802.11n/ac/ax features
  • Explore LTE basic, advanced networks features and research activities
