When Catherine de Barnes settled into her Cotswolds cottage in the village of Much Slaughter leaving beyond an unfaithful husband and an unethical business, everything suggests she's got the rural idyll. And it starts so well, with a host of new friends including her bookshop-owning neighbour Wickham Skeith, local vicar Scott Willoughby and his dog Barking, and a fledgling business making chocolates for the village Crimson Courgette Coffee Emporium. She even gains a highly sought-after place on the prestigious Village Fair Committee. But when their guest, Celebrity Chef Lee Clump, is murdered right in front of her, Catherine is sucked into a frantic race to identify the killer before Chief Inspector Glen Parva charges the wrong person. As this proves to be harder than she thought, distractions in the form of dishy doctor Linton Heath, and a business offer she'd be mad to turn down, offer the perfect way out. But only if she acts straight away.
