JunChen Lai was one of the cruelest officials and helped to found and stabilize an empire established by the only female emperor in Chinese history. It was said more than one hundred thousand of people were killed in his campaign as the emperor usurped the empire established by her former husband who became her late father-in-law as she got married with his son. As he later became arrogant and tried to find problems for the family members of the emperor, he was killed by the emperor through gagging him up with a wooden ball in his mouth before he was executed as she was afraid that he might divulge some inappropriate information in the process. His name Jun meant smart, and Chen meant minister or obedient minister. It is a common saying in China that one has to pay back what he owes sooner or later as a karma which is an everlasting theme in Chinese literature.
