A stand-alone comic adventure for younger readers by sublime storyteller Vivian French, with pictures by a talented new illustrator and animator, Marta Kissi.

Alfie Onion has just set off on a great adventure... but only to carry his brother's luggage. It's his elder brother, Magnifico Onion, who's destined to win their family a Happily Ever After. But when it turns out Magnifico isn't half the hero he's cracked up to be, it falls to Alfie to save the day - with a little help from his loyal dog, a talking horse and a couple of meddling magpies.

About the Author

Vivian French is a highly acclaimed children's author who has written over 40 books for Walker, and more than 250 books during the course of her career. Her recent work includes the critically acclaimed picture book The Most Wonderful Thing in the World. Vivian teaches on the illustration course at Edinburgh School of Art, and helped to found the mentoring scheme Picture Hooks for aspiring young illustrators.

About the Illustrator

Marta Kissi is a new and exciting talent in the world of children's book illustration. Marta studied illustration and animation at Kingston University she graduated in 2010, and completed her Master's at the Royal College of Art in 2012. Her previous work for Walker includes covers for Tanya Landman's junior fiction series, Flotsam and Jetsam, and the UK jacket for Better Nate Than Ever.

The comedy is pitch-perfect and brought to vivid reality through Kissi's charming illustrations which make Magnifico look especially hilarious whilst sulking or stuffing his face with pies. The twists and turns along the way are just enough to keep a good young reader on his/her toes without making it unnecessarily complicated.
