Just a few decades ago, Humanity's abrupt, accidental, and violent introduction into the galactic community sent shockwaves across the galaxy. Many feared the worst from the first apex predator species ascending to the stars. Now, after the dust has settled and first impressions begin to fade, both sides cautiously take steps to get to know each other —hoping that peaceful coexistence might be possible.
In the middle of these first tentative steps is Dipu and his family, members of an avian species called Feria, and their unlikely Human friend Mike. When Mike is invited to visit Dipu's home colony of Kalenden, a ripple goes through the avian civilisation. How will a society of prey react to a predator actually living in their midst? Can fear be unlearned, or is it written too deeply to overcome?
As these questions loom over the visit, unbeknownst to everyone else, a small group of Feria harbours plans of their own — because not everyone is ready to embrace this new future.
