Flatland: A Romance of Many Dimensions by Edwin A. Abbott is a satirical novella in which a square narrates life in Flatland, a two-dimensional world ruled by rigid geometry and strict social hierarchy. As he explains the customs, class system, and limitations of his plane, he becomes increasingly troubled by the confines of Flatland's "common sense." His worldview is shattered when he encounters a sphere from three-dimensional space, who reveals higher dimensions and challenges Flatland's certainties—an awakening that brings wonder, conflict, and consequences. Part mathematical fantasy, part social critique, the book uses dimension as a lens to question conformity, authority, and the limits of human perception.
