Devil's Dance is a sparkling new English translation of the third part of Dumas' ambitious mega-novel Le Vicomte de Bragelonne, a tale of d'Artagnan and the Three Musketeers and a prequel to The Man in the Iron Mask. The previous volume, Court of Daggers, focused on the bold Raoul de Bragelonne, Athos' son, but Devil's Dance belongs to its young heroine, Louise de La Valliere, beloved of both Raoul and King Louis XIV. The story takes Louise from demure provincial demoiselle to maid of honor in the royal court, where she catches the eye of the king. This puts Raoul and Louis XIV in direct conflict as rivals for the heart of Louise, who must somehow preserve her integrity as she struggles to find her own truth in a headlong dance of intrigue, betrayal, and love.
