In a world of rogue organic war-machines, it's Saunders's job to neutralize them alongside his partner, Malachai. Living up to his father's career-climbing ambitions for Saunder's powerful ice affinity, however, clashes with Saunder's increasingly complicated feelings for Malachai.
After their first fight against the rogues, Saunder and Malachai are left shaken. This job, this life, isn't what they expected, and when Saunder's father exerts more pressure to drive a wedge between them, things become even thornier. Saunder realizes he can either continue on the strict path dictated by his father, or risk his future, career, and the only family he has by fighting to keep Malachai at his side.
