Why is a rainbow curved? Why aren't left-handers extinct? How is a sunflower like a synchronised swimmer? Why is 'e' a magic number?
The answer to these questions is contained within one simple word: MATHS. Because maths is all about patterns, and our universe is extraordinarily patterned.
With enthusiasm, humour and heart, Eddie Woo shows how card tricks, conspiracy theories, teacups, killer butterflies, music, lightning and so much more illuminate the spellbinding world of maths that surrounds us.
'I never thought I'd read a maths book cover to cover, let alone sing its praises. Eddie Woo makes maths fun, accessible and relevant. Now we can all benefit from his extraordinary skill as a teacher.'
JENNY BROCKIE, journalist and TV host
'Not just a great teacher, Woo's Wonderful World of Maths shows Eddie to be a storyteller too. Is there anything the Woo cannot do?'
ADAM SPENCER, Ambassador for Mathematics, University of Sydney

What a Wonderful Way in to the World
If you are already familiar with Eddie Woo and his "WooTube" series, this book will prove a useful gateway into his genius and the beauty and brilliance of mathematics. As no-one says with pride they cannot read, it should not be that one can be proud of their ignorance in mathematics, and Woo artfully opens the world up to the reader, showing how it is the identification of patterns and symbols that gives us a better understanding of it, both mathematically and socially. This masterly book will soon become a favourite in your collection; certainly one that you find yourself returning to many times as you begin to identify something more about our wonderful world of mathematics.
Good entry reading on mathematics
Unfortunately I was a little disappointed with this book. It's more or less geared to those with little mathematics knowledge so if you study math as I do there aren't too many take aways.
Having said that there were at least 2 chapters I went and reread and shared with friends.
Bottom line is if you're curious about maths but don't know that much, this would be a fantastic book. It provides all background knowledge and is incredibly easy to read. If you're a maths teacher or uni student, it might not be as valuable.
